Total Population (2000)
The 2000 Census placed the population of the region at 6,211,038.  Between 1990 and 1995, an increase in population of 391,716 was noted and another increase of 431,795 between 1995 to 2000.  The 1995 growth rate of the region was recorded at 1.3% with a crude birth rate of 18.71.  In 2000, the region's growth rate slightly increased to 1.58%, with a crude birth rate of 26.5, a big increase from the 1995 data.

The region's population density was placed at 266 in 1990 and increased to 286 in 1995.  By 2000 it reached 307 which is an increase of 45 persons per sq. km. within a ten-year span.

Predominantly, Region VI has a young population.  In 2000, the proportion of children under age 15 is 36.5%, those between the ages 15-64 was 58.8% while those at age 65 and over was 5.0%.  The proportion of the population of reproductive age is 48.7%.  Children born to this portion of the population comprise the young dependents which is 60.96%.

Contraceptive prevalence rate increased from 40.60% in 1995 to 46% in 2000.  This suggests that couples especially the women have seriously considered managing their fertility.
