The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) 6th Country Programme continues to work with
national and local governments, government and non-government agencies, academe and civil society to help Filipinos achieve a decent quality of life through population management, improved reproductive health and
gender equity. In Central Visayas, UNFPA 6th Country Programme of assistance is focused in Bohol Province, as this is one of the twenty identified poorest provinces in the country with a high population growth rate.
The Population and Development Strategy (PDS) implemented in Bohol Province seeks to enhance local policy environment to support population and reproductive health programs, particularly for the poorest and most
vulnerable families. To do this, it will establish and strengthen its provincial/municipal and sectoral plans through POPDEV integration in all levels of local development planning. Under this component, a Strategic
Competency Development Project is also undertaken to strengthen the population and sustainable development competencies of population program workers, local planners and policy-makers through learning by practice.
Also as one of its strategies, intensified advocacy campaigns using various media channels and advocacy approaches are organized to increase political , institutional and community support for the development and
implementation of a gender sensitive population and reproductive health policies and programs.
