More than numbers: a primer on population for the local governments

  • The 1991 Local Government Code changed the country's political landscape bringing into focus the additional tasks handed down to the local governments, including of course the management of its population. This primer parallels the advantages of decentralization and local population concerns -- the key lies in integrating population factors into the local development planning process.

Handbook on basic demographic concepts: a guide for population program workers, planners, professionals and students

  • POPCOM has always worked hand-in-hand with local government units and part of its noble cause is to equip these local government units with the technical capability in handling local population concerns. This handbook explains, simplifies and clarifies basic demographic terms and concepts using actual Philippine data to achieve its purpose.

The Philippine Population Management Program ( PPMP )

  • This publication traces not only the historical roots of the program but also enumerates its merits. It emphasizes that people and not policies will spell the difference though not discounting the direction that government policies can help bring. The key lies how people as individuals and as members of families, will decide and carry out their decisions regarding marriage, the number of children and a sustainable lifestyle.

Success stories in population

  • The Commission on Population takes pride in sharing with the public the outstanding success stories in the implementation of the Philippine Population Management Program. The stories in this collection are the reports as received from the regions, put together for purposes of presentation and discussion at the National Population Congress.

People at the Center of Development : Philippine Population Management Program bi-annual report

  • This reports the extent to which the program has made a mark in the hearts and minds of people, Cabinet officials, local government executives and various key global personalities spreading the good news that never again will the human facto be overlooked in the government's development program.

    It traces the historical roots of the program and the changes it has undergone to be kept in tune with the changing needs of a changing time - it brings into the spotlight the many facets of the program with due respect to certain beliefs and principles that is traditionally Filipino. What was done, what is being done and what will be done in the future to further push the program are also enumerated in this very useful and relevant report. It not only dreams of what should be but also gives its readers a reality check of what is really happening aptly supported by statistical data.

    With it comes an information kit on the program by explaining the various consequences of rapid population growth and how it affects various sectors of society like education, economy, etc. As a response, it also explains the various components of the program which will address these consequences.

Hearts and Minds : Reaching Out to Young Filipino Through Information, Education and Communication

  • " The youth is the hope of the fatherland " and so goes the ever-living cliche which has become vital in the development of this publication. The Commission has always been concerned with the proper molding of young Filipino hearts and minds, that the Filipino youth be educated and guided adequately towards responsible adulthood. This takes up that challenge by presenting factual evidences on youth-population concerns plus the various IEC tasks that will respond to this challenge. It also discusses the essential of the Adolescent Health Youth Development Program as one of the main tasks of the Commission.
