Brief Description
Population program is not only about numbers.
Anchored on the population and sustainable development framework,
it is more concerned about striking a balance between population,
adequate resources and healthy environment. But to make a
dent in one's life, it needs to be fully supported by the
local governments, the main implementers of the population
program.
These case studies are documentation of the Population Management
Program in the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Guimaras, La
Union, and Cagayan. It describes how the Philippine Population
Management Program was localized in these provinces from inception
to 1998.
The primary sources of information are the Provincial Governor
and staff, Provincial Population Officer and staff, Provincial
Planning and Development Officer and staff, Chair and members
of the Provincial Advocacy Team, other key population program
implementers and/or partners, and family planing acceptors,
among others.
Field visits, together with focus group discussions, enabled
close interaction with key informants. Secondary data sources,
including plans and other materials, augmented the primary
information gathered.
It is hoped that other local government units could make good
use any one of these models in implementing their Local Population. |
