Knowledge shapes decision. We hope that the information contained in this report on the status of our youth will enable us to reflect and contemplate on the different life situations they are in today. We also hope that the information in this report could help us sustain the productive activities of our young achievers and provide opportunities to those who are out of school or not employed.

What our youth think and do is told in story form. The form we use in everyday life to understand what we and what others do. The narration takes the first person plural point of view to create no distance between the writers and the readers and to stress the truth that whoever we are and whatever we do, we are all connected as the parents, elders, guardians and role models of our youth; that we brought them out to our world; and that it is our responsibility to help them build a better world.

Knowledge leads to action. We also hope that the elemental facts and figures in this report: the sociodemographic profile, the social environment, the world view and risk behaviors of our youth will be fully utilized in the assessment, restructuring and enrichment of programs designed to meet their needs in the areas of education, employment, adolescent health and development and reproductive health.

The technical version of this report will in the 3rd Volume of the Philippine Population Review (PPR) of the Philippine Population Association, with assistance from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Commission on Population.
