The State of the Philippine Population Report 2004 focuses on urbanization, population, and local governance. It highlights the experiences of eight selected cities in managing urbanization and the growing urban population, and presents insights on how local government officials and city executives could best cope with the challenges of urbanization. It also recommends policy interventions that would contribute to better local governance and improved quality of life of Filipinos.
The publication is intended for local government unit officials, policymakers, legislators, and other influentials, including the media, population and health advocates and program workers, NGOs, and the general public.
Through the publication, POPCOM and UNFPA hope to promote core advocacy messages among these various publics and convince the target audiences to support the population management program. Support for the program is expected to help develop a favorable policy environment for promoting population management initiatives.
